Tom Cruise Returns as Cole Trickle
Cruise is returning as Cole Trickle, the competitive driver he originally played in the 1990 racing film. The sequel marks the character’s return nearly four decades after the original Days of Thunder. Cruise is also attached to produce the movie alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. His involvement behind the scenes could give the actor an even greater role in shaping the next chapter.
What Will the Sequel Be About?
The story details for Days of Thunder 2 remain largely secret. Cruise has nevertheless offered some insight into the direction he hopes to take with the sequel. Following the announcement, the actor made a surprise appearance at Daytona International Speedway during the NASCAR Cup Series drivers’ meeting.
Cruise said:
“It’s not just about racing. It’s about the community and the people here. There’s something very special about racers and the whole racing community.”
He continued:
“It’s a culture, and I was very proud to be able to reflect that in the first Days of Thunder, and I am honored to share it with the world.”
Cruise added:
“That’s basically what we’re going to really go for with this one.”
His comments suggest that the sequel will explore the culture and relationships surrounding racing alongside the competition itself.
A New Creative Team Takes the Wheel
