Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil reboot. The footage delivers a brutal mix of horror, action, and survival as an ordinary man becomes trapped in the deadly chaos engulfing Raccoon City.
The trailer showcases intense horror sequences, large-scale action, and numerous terrifying creatures. It also features familiar game-inspired weapon pickups and other elements that appear to capture the spirit of the games.

Resident Evil Follows an Ordinary Man
Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier who becomes trapped in the deadly chaos engulfing Raccoon City. Unlike previous adaptations, the movie does not follow familiar heroes such as Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine.
Instead, the story focuses on an ordinary man with no combat experience. Therefore, Bryan is forced to survive a nightmare that he is completely unprepared to face.
Explaining Bryan’s role, Cregger said:
“The concept here is that we’re following an idiot. Not that he’s stupid, but he’s not your typical game character, with no combat skills whatsoever and completely inept at survival. Bryan is very much an everyman who happens to be burdened with this kind of sacred mission that’s going to take him into the heart of everything. It’s kind of like Frodo going into Mordor.”
Consequently, the movie will place an inexperienced protagonist directly at the center of the franchise’s terrifying world.
Zach Cregger Brings His Own Style to Resident Evil
Although the movie is based on the iconic video game series, Cregger is also bringing his own creative identity to the project. According to the filmmaker, Sony Pictures allowed him to approach the story in his own way.
Cregger said:
“They were kind enough to hear me out and let me run with it. It’s really a Zach Cregger movie that just happens to be a Resident Evil movie.”
That approach could help the new reboot stand apart from previous Resident Evil adaptations. Rather than simply repeating familiar stories, the movie appears to combine Cregger’s distinct horror style with the recognizable elements of the games.
As a result, audiences can expect a film that feels familiar while still offering a different perspective on the franchise.
Resident Evil Will Move From One Set Piece to Another
Cregger also revealed that the movie will take direct inspiration from the structure of the video games. According to the director, the story will quickly descend into chaos and continue moving from one dangerous set piece to another.
Describing the movie’s structure, Cregger said:
“It feels like one gigantic sequence. Things pop off about five minutes in, and it basically stays like that until the end. What I love about the games is that you move from set-piece to set-piece.”
He continued:
“Every location has a unique challenge. So again, I’m borrowing from the games directly in that rhythm, where you’re just running through a gauntlet.”
Therefore, the movie could deliver a fast-moving survival horror experience. Instead of slowing down for long periods, Bryan may constantly find himself facing a new threat or challenge.
Alongside Austin Abrams, the cast includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
