Full Story Breakdown
Animated projects have allowed creators to explore different storytelling styles while adding original perspectives to the larger franchise. These stories often highlight themes of courage, hope, and self-discovery while introducing characters who could shape the future of the galaxy.
Star Wars: The Ninth Jedi Series Brings Back Lah Kara’s Journey
The Star Wars The Ninth Jedi Series continues the story of Lah Kara, a character first introduced in the 2021 animated short The Ninth Jedi from Star Wars: Visions Volume 1.
Created by Kenji Kamiyama with character designs by Tetsuya Nishio, the upcoming spin-off series places Kara at the center of a larger adventure. The story will explore her growth as she discovers more about herself, her abilities, and her connection to the Force.
According to the official Star Wars website, Kara’s “earnest personality and humble origins” were intentionally created to remind viewers of Luke Skywalker’s early journey before he became a legendary Jedi.
However, Kara’s story is not simply a repeat of Luke’s path. Instead, the series focuses on a new character who must overcome her own doubts while learning what it truly means to become a Jedi.
By introducing a hero who starts from a place of uncertainty, the series explores one of the franchise’s most important ideas: true strength comes through experience, growth, and understanding one’s purpose.
Lah Kara’s Story Takes Inspiration From Luke Skywalker
Director Shunsuke Tada explained that Kara shares similarities with Luke Skywalker because both characters begin their journeys as unknown individuals who must discover their hidden potential.
Tada said:
“Luke was also an unknown boy and not talented in the beginning, [and] he gradually becomes a true Jedi.”
Although Luke Skywalker’s journey remains one of the most iconic stories in the franchise, Kara’s path will explore a different form of growth. The creative team wanted her to feel like a character who is still learning instead of someone who already understands the full extent of her abilities.
Tada explained:
“We tried not to make Kara look like a Master from the beginning, but she’s gradually growing. In the original story of The Ninth Jedi, Kara’s not trying to win over her father or somebody else. She’s trying to win over herself and grow as a person.”
This personal focus separates Kara from many previous Jedi characters. Her biggest challenge is not proving herself to others but understanding her own abilities and becoming confident in who she is.
The series will also explore the emotional side of becoming a Jedi. Beyond learning how to use the Force, Kara must face fears, make difficult choices, and discover the responsibility that comes with her abilities.
The Ninth Jedi Also Draws Inspiration From Princess Leia
While Luke Skywalker serves as one of the major inspirations behind Kara’s journey, another legendary character also influenced her development.
Kara was also inspired by Princess Leia Organa, with elements of Leia’s determination, courage, and leadership reflected in her personality.
Furthermore, creator Kenji Kamiyama described Kara as a modern character whose abilities develop naturally throughout the story. Unlike experienced Jedi who already understand their connection to the Force, Kara must gradually discover her own potential.
Kamiyama said:
“I feel like she’s a very modern character. She already has a kind of natural talent in her. She doesn’t know at the beginning, but she’s naturally trained by Jedi.”
He also explained how Kara’s encounters with Jedi Hunters reveal abilities that even she does not fully recognize:
“When she was chased by Jedi Hunters, the Jedi Hunters also saw something [in her] even though she didn’t know. And [her connection with] the Force is becoming stronger, although she doesn’t know how to use it.”
This makes Kara’s journey more focused on discovery rather than immediate mastery. As her connection with the Force grows stronger, she must also learn how to control her abilities and understand her role in the galaxy.

The series premiered at Anime Expo 2026 on July 1, 2026. Following the early preview, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi is scheduled to debut on Disney+ and Hulu on August 5, 2026.
With its anime-inspired approach and focus on a new Jedi hero, the series continues the franchise’s tradition of experimenting with different storytelling styles. It allows creators to explore new characters while keeping the themes of hope, bravery, and destiny that have defined Star Wars for decades.
A New Chapter Begins for the Jedi Legacy
The Star Wars The Ninth Jedi Series introduces a fresh perspective on the Jedi legacy by following a hero who is still learning, growing, and discovering her place in the galaxy.
Rather than replacing the stories of previous Jedi, Kara’s journey adds another layer to the expanding Star Wars universe. Her connection to Luke Skywalker’s story creates a familiar foundation, while her own experiences allow the series to explore a new direction.
With influences from both Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, Kara represents a new generation of characters who could continue the franchise’s tradition of inspiring adventures. As Star Wars continues to expand, her journey could become another memorable chapter in the long history of the Jedi.
