Scream 7 Premiere Faces Pro-Palestine Protest as Kevin Williamson Supports Right to Demonstrate!

Dozens of pro-Palestine protesters gathered outside the Los Angeles premiere of Scream 7 at Paramount Studios. Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, held signs reading “Cancel Paramount+” and “Stand For Free Speech Boycott Scream 7,” and chanted slogans such as “Boycott Scream 7” and “Free, free, free Palestine.”

The protest was organized by Entertainment Labor for Palestine, CODEPINK LA, and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles. The organizers sought to highlight the entertainment industry’s treatment of pro-Palestinian voices and raise awareness about what they described as the whitewashing of Israel’s ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Melissa Barrera Firing Sparks Controversy

The demonstration was partly in response to Melissa Barrera’s firing from Scream 7 in November 2023 after she publicly expressed support for Palestine following Hamas’ invasion of Israel in October 2023. This decision sparked debate online and in the media about the treatment of actors who voice political opinions.

Protest organizer Nino Testa highlighted the protest’s goals:

“We believe that Melissa Barrera is a part of the Scream community and that it’s our responsibility to speak out when a member of our community has been harmed. We refuse to let the franchise we love be used as propaganda for a genocide. We reject Hollywood’s racist blacklisting and censorship of any person who advocates for a free Palestine.”

Testa also pointed out that the campaign seeks to encourage accountability in Hollywood, ensuring that studios do not silence voices based on political beliefs.

Kevin Williamson Stands by Right to Protest

While stars like Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox attended the red carpet, the protest could only be faintly heard from the premiere area.

Director Kevin Williamson addressed the demonstration, underlining the importance of free speech:

“I saw them and my heart just sort of stopped. Look, we live in America. Everyone has a right to protest and everyone should be heard. And if you have your truth and if you want to stand up and be heard, you protest. That is your right in this country, and I stand by it. I support that 100 percent.”

Williamson’s remarks demonstrate his commitment to allowing fans and activists to express their viewpoints, even amid controversy surrounding a major Hollywood release.

Spyglass Media Group Responds

In response to the protest, Spyglass Media Group, the producers of the Scream franchise, released a statement regarding their stance:

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

The statement reiterates the company’s policy of balancing the right to free expression with a firm opposition to hate speech. Spyglass emphasized that the studio aims to ensure that the controversy surrounding the film does not promote harmful rhetoric.

Industry Reaction and Public Debate

The protest has sparked discussions across social media and Hollywood commentary platforms. Many industry insiders expressed support for Kevin Williamson’s stance on free speech, while others debated the implications of political activism intersecting with blockbuster film releases.

Observers noted that this incident reflects a growing trend in Hollywood, where political and social activism by actors and filmmakers can influence both public perception and studio decisions. The Scream 7 premiere serves as a case study of how large franchises navigate controversies in an increasingly polarized environment.

The protest aimed to encourage audiences to reconsider supporting Scream 7, which is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026. While the red carpet event proceeded as planned, the demonstration highlighted the tensions between free speech, activism, and industry censorship.

Despite the protest, early buzz for the film remains high, with fans and critics eagerly anticipating how the franchise will continue to evolve. The controversy surrounding the premiere is expected to remain a talking point in Hollywood circles in the coming weeks.
