Moreover, the preview highlights breathtaking visuals, emotional character moments, and large-scale action sequences. While excitement continues to grow, the film has also remained in the spotlight due to recent controversy surrounding its original author.

Children of Blood and Bone Official Trailer Offers a First Look at Orïsha

The first full trailer for Children of Blood and Bone introduces audiences to the stunning fantasy kingdom of Orïsha. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film adapts Tomi Adeyemi’s acclaimed 2018 novel, which draws inspiration from West African and Yoruba mythology.

At the heart of the story is Zélie Adebola, a young woman determined to restore magic after it was wiped out during a brutal royal massacre known as The Raid.

What Is Children of Blood and Bone About?

According to the official synopsis:

“In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.”

As the story unfolds, Zélie joins forces with Princess Amari, who steals a powerful relic capable of bringing magic back. Meanwhile, Prince Tzain also becomes part of the dangerous journey.

Together, they must locate three sacred artifacts needed to complete the ritual and restore magic before their enemies stop them.

Long Development Journey and Recent Controversy

Although the trailer marks a major milestone, Children of Blood and Bone has experienced a lengthy road to the big screen.

Initially, Disney and 20th Century Fox optioned the adaptation in 2017. However, after several years of development, the project moved to Paramount Pictures in 2022, with Gina Prince-Bythewood taking over directing duties.

More recently, author Tomi Adeyemi publicly revealed that she was unhappy with the adaptation. She stated on social media that she wanted her name removed from the movie’s marketing and promotional materials.

Additionally, Adeyemi specifically mentioned cast member Amandla Stenberg in one of her posts. However, she did not explain the exact reasons behind those comments.

Despite the controversy, anticipation for the fantasy epic remains high following the release of the first full trailer.
