Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner is becoming an increasingly important part of the new DC Universe. After making his debut as the arrogant Green Lantern in Superman, the character has already secured appearances in several upcoming DC projects.
Full Story Breakdown
Fillion will return as Guy Gardner in Lanterns before appearing again in Superman: Man of Tomorrow. However, his DCU future now includes another surprising project.
DCU’s Guy Gardner Joins Mister Miracle
Lanterns showrunner Tom King has revealed that Nathan Fillion has joined the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, King discussed bringing Fillion into the project and praised the actor’s energy.
“We brought Nathan into Mister Miracle’s show, and doing that, it’s just so wonderful,”
King also explained why Guy Gardner’s personality works in a project with a different tone from Lanterns.
“He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that.”
Therefore, Fillion’s appearance in Mister Miracle could give fans another opportunity to see his unique take on Guy Gardner. It also suggests that the character could become a recurring presence across the wider DCU.
DCU’s Guy Gardner Role Continues to Grow
Nathan Fillion first appeared as Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s Superman. The Green Lantern quickly stood out because of his arrogant attitude and over-the-top personality.
Fillion later reprised the role in Peacemaker Season 2. Now, his DCU schedule is becoming even busier.
First, he will return as Guy Gardner in Lanterns. He will then appear in Superman: Man of Tomorrow. Now, Mister Miracle has been added to his growing list of DCU projects.
As a result, Guy Gardner appears to have a larger future in the DCU than many fans initially expected.
What Is the Mister Miracle Series About?
The animated Mister Miracle series was announced at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Tom King is developing the series after previously writing acclaimed Mister Miracle comics. The story follows Scott Free, also known as Mister Miracle, and his wife, Big Barda.
The pair attempt to live a quiet life on Earth. However, their peaceful existence is connected to a much larger conflict involving the worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis.
The series will also explore Darkseid and the ongoing war between Apokolips and New Genesis.
Because of this, Mister Miracle could introduce a major cosmic storyline to the DCU while also exploring the personal lives of Scott Free and Big Barda.
DCU’s Guy Gardner and Mister Miracle Will Be Part of the DCU Canon
Another major detail is the series’ connection to the wider DC Universe.
James Gunn has confirmed that the animated Mister Miracle series will be part of the DCU canon. Therefore, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner appearance could be more meaningful than a simple cameo.
The series could also help expand the DCU’s cosmic mythology and introduce audiences to important characters from the Fourth World.
Casting details for the other characters have not yet been revealed. However, Tom King has already teased that the actor chosen to voice Darkseid will be an unexpected choice.
That mystery could make the eventual casting announcement even more interesting for DC fans.
When Will DCU’s Guy Gardner’s Mister Miracle Be Released?
At the moment, Mister Miracle does not have an announced release date.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation are developing the animated series. More information about its voice cast, story and release plans is expected in the future.
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Nathan Fillion continue his DCU journey as Guy Gardner across Lanterns, Superman: Man of Tomorrow and Mister Miracle.
