Marvel Brings Back a Major Villain With a Comic-Accurate New Look in X-Men ’97!

Marvel Animation continues to surprise fans with unexpected returns and deeper connections to Marvel Comics. The latest episode of X-Men ’97 delivers a major moment that could change the future of one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.

The animated series has already expanded the legacy of the X-Men franchise. However, Season 2, Episode 4 introduces a character whose return connects directly to Marvel’s larger multiverse stories.

X-Men ’97 Return of Kang Brings Back a Classic Villain

X-Men ’97 Kang Return happens in Season 2, Episode 4, titled “Rise of Apocalypse – Part II.” The episode features Rama-Tut watching En Sabah Nur complete his transformation into Apocalypse before revealing his true identity.

After witnessing Apocalypse’s rise, Rama-Tut summons his Time Chair and transforms into Kang the Conqueror. He then leaves for another timeline, confirming that the legendary time traveler has survived.

Because Kang escapes, Marvel Animation has kept the door open for future appearances. The character could return whenever the story requires another multiverse threat.

Kang’s New Design Stays Faithful to Marvel Comics

One of the biggest highlights of Kang’s return is his comic-accurate appearance. Instead of creating a completely new design, Marvel Animation embraces the villain’s classic comic book style.

The new Kang design features:

  • A green tunic
  • A purple helmet
  • Purple gloves
  • A blue face
  • White glowing eyes

The appearance closely matches Kang’s traditional Marvel Comics look, making the animated version a treat for fans who have followed the character for decades.

X-Men ’97 Connects Kang’s History With Marvel Comics

The episode also highlights Kang’s complicated comic book origins. Before becoming one of the Avengers’ greatest enemies, Kang existed through different identities across Marvel history.

Rama-Tut first appeared in Fantastic Four #19 (1963). One year later, Kang the Conqueror made his official debut in Avengers #8 (1964).

By including Rama-Tut in the storyline, X-Men ’97 pays tribute to Kang’s comic history while introducing his origins to a new audience.

X-Men ’97 Could Become Kang’s New Marvel Home

Kang was originally positioned as the next major villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following his appearances in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the time-traveling villain was expected to play a major role in future Avengers stories.

However, Marvel Studios later changed direction after parting ways with actor Jonathan Majors. As a result, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was reworked into Avengers: Doomsday.

Because of these changes, Marvel Animation could become Kang’s primary home moving forward. The animated universe allows Marvel to explore different versions of the character without the same limitations faced by live-action projects.

Kang Survives and Leaves the Door Open for Future Returns

Although Kang makes a major appearance in X-Men ’97 Season 2, Episode 4, his story is far from over.

Kang survives the episode and leaves for another timeline. Therefore, Marvel has kept the door open for future appearances.

Since Kang exists across countless timelines, Marvel Animation has many opportunities to bring the character back in new and unexpected ways.

X-Men ’97 Sets Up More Marvel Animation Stories

The return of Kang adds another exciting chapter to X-Men ’97’s expanding storyline. The animated series has already been confirmed through Season 4, proving Marvel’s confidence in the project.

Additionally, Episode 4 includes a post-credits scene that sets up future developments. This suggests that bigger stories are still coming as the series continues to expand its connections to Marvel history.

With Apocalypse, Kang, and timeline mysteries becoming part of the story, X-Men ’97 is quickly becoming one of Marvel Animation’s most important projects.
